Our Services
support and resources through Nots
Throughout the year, NOTS provides outreach, referrals to housing and social services, support with basic needs, and partnerships that help individuals access mental health care, employment resources, and community assistance. During the winter months, from November 1 through March 31, NOTS operates a low-barrier warming center to ensure that no one in our community is left outside in freezing temperatures. The warming center offers a safe, warm, and welcoming space, along with support from trained volunteers and staff who help guests connect to long-term services. Whether through daily outreach or winter shelter operations, NOTS works to ensure dignity, safety, and hope for every person we serve.
If you or someone you know is in need of shelter or community resource assistance, please contact Jodi Miller, NOTS Center Manager:

Hosting
NOTS is hosted by our partner churches in Carson City. Currently without a permanent location, NOTS rotates to a different location each month. Our partner churches open their doors each winter to anyone in need of a warm place to sleep at night.
Volunteers
Our volunteers are the lifeblood of our organization. Volunteers are offered annual training and support as needed in order to provide or guests with a safe place to sleep. Volunteers always serve shifts in pairs. Volunteering is also a year-round opportunity, with many ways to serve our community.

Supporting our Guests
NOTS helps to provide a stable environment where our community partners can identify needs and supports for our guests. We strive to connect each guest that enters our doors with the services they need to stabilize and thrive in our community.
Leading Causes of Homelessness:
1) Unemployment
2) Inability to afford rent
3) Disability, including mental health/substance abuse disorders
4) Life crisis/significant loss
5) Domestic violence
Our Guests Come First
1) Safer streets, safer community
- According to the Carson City Sheriff’s Office, calls for police assistance dropped dramatically when the shelter was open
2) Zero deaths related to exposure
- Prior to the shelter opening, citizens of Carson City died from exposure right here on our streets.
Our Goal is Safety
Our guests and volunteers are held to strict community standards. Volunteers receive training and support, and guests are expected to adhere to our center's rules. We at NOTS work tirelessly to partner with various agencies, including the Carson City Sheriff's Office. Together we can create a safer home in Carson City!
